Easy to Knit Tube Sock in Three Yarn Weights

A really easy to knit-free knitting pattern. Make this gorgeous pair of knitted socks with three yarn weights. There are soft and warm, great for using inside the house on cold days. Great for knitters who are just starting to knit socks.

Basic Two Needle Tube Socks in Worsted Weight

Materials: 4 oz. To 7 oz. Worsted weight yarn (depending on length desired) I recommend wool or a wool blend such as Woolease or Encore. Acrylic socks don’t wear well but, if you’re making them to wear with a special sweater, they’ll do fine because you won’t be wearing them often. Acrylic does make feet a bit sweaty though.

Easy to Knit Tube Sock in Three Yarn Weights

Size 5 needles

Gauge: 4 to 5 sts per inch

Yarn needle for weaving toe (don’t get terrified but, we are going to kitchener the toe closed, but if you feel you can’t do it, I’ll include an alternate toe).

Cast on 48 stitches

Sock Cuff

Row 1-16: K1, P1 across

If you want a longer sock top than shown in the picture above, work more of Row 1 until the desired length.

Heel and Foot part:

Row 1:*K1, P1* , repeat 11 times, knit 24

Row 2: Purl 24, *K1,P1* repeat 11 times

Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until your sock is 2” less than desired sock length. On final row place a marker between stitches 24 and 25

Toe:

Row 1: *K 1, slip 1, K1, Pass Slipped stitch over, Knit until three stitches before marker, K2 tog, K1*, repeat working last K2 tog, K1 three stitches from end of row.

Row 2: purl

Repeat rows 1 and 2 until there are 12 stitches on either side of the marker.

Place the 12 stitches from either side of marker on double points or use straight needles , just make sure sock is folded exactly in half with the toe matched up on top. Break off yarn leaving about 30” tail and thread onto yarn needle. With your stitches lined up one needle on top of the other , head down into the first stitch on the bottom needle as if to purl, go up into the first stitch on top as if to knit. *Head back on down to the first stitch on the bottom row and go through it as if to knit and take it off the needle. Move over to the next stitch on that same bottom needle and got through it as if to Purl. (leave it on the needle). On up to the top needle again and go through it as if to Purl. Take it off the needle. Move over to the next stitch on the top needle and go through it as if to knit (leave it on the needle)*. Repeat from * to * until all the stitches are off the needles. Now sew up side seam using a mattress stitch , working on the outside of your sock. Weave in end.

To work the same sock in sport weight cast on 56 stitches and size 2 or 3 needles . Work K1, P1 for body on 28 sts.

28 stitches will be on either side of marker to start working toes. Decrease until 14 stitched remain on either side of marker.

To work same sock in fingering or sock weight yarn work on 64 stitches on size 1 needles. Work K1, P1 for body on 32 sts. 32 stitches will be on either side of the markers. Decrease until 16 stitches remain on either side of marker.

If you really can’t figure out how to seam up your toe, you can work it as follows.

Row 1: Knit 4, K2 together across

Row 2: Purl and all even

Row 3: Knit 3, K 2 tog across

Row 4: Knit 2, K2 tog across

Row 5: K1, K 2 tog across

Row 6: K 2 tog across. Break off yarn leaving a 12” tail. Place on yarn needle and run through stitches. Fasten tightly, sew hole close if necessary and seam up sides as recommend above.

If you don’t want to seam your sock , the above pattern can also be worked on a 12” circular or on double points.
