Zig and Zag Hat Free Knitting Pattern

Zig and zag hat free knitting pattern is an easy pattern to follow. Knit a warm hat for your head with a cool zig-zag design.

Materials needed:

  • 3 oz. Worsted weight yarn
  • size 8  16″ circular needles or whatever you need to get gauge matching sized double points and a yarn needle for weaving ends.

Gauge: 4st to 1″

 

Cast on 78 stitches, place marker,and being careful not to twist stitches

Row 1-6: K1, P1 around

Row 7 & 8: Knit

Row 9 & 10 : Purl

Row 11: Knit 3, P 2, *K4, P 2* repeat from *s around, ending K1

Row 12: Knit 2, P2, “K4, P2* , repeat from *’s around ending, K 2

Row 13: Knit 1, P2, *K4, P2* repeat from *’s around, ending K3

Row 14: P2, *K4, P2*repeat from *’s around, ending K4

Row 15: repeat row 13

Row 16: repeat row 12

Row 17: Repeat row 11

Row 18: *K4, P2* , repeat around

12-26: repeat rows 11-18

27-34: repeat rows 11-18

Row 35, 36: Purl

Just knit the rest of the rows until hat measures 7 1/2”. decrease 6 stitches in last row. (72 stitches)

Decrease for top:

Row 1: Knit 6, K 2 tog

Row 2 and all even : Knit

Row 3: K 5, K 2 tog

Row 5: K4, K 2 tog

Row 7: K 3, K 2 tog,

Row 9: K2, K2 tog

Row 10: K1, K 2 tog

Row 11: K 2 tog.

Break off yarn, leaving a 12″ tail. Run yarn through remaining stitches pulling tightly. Fasten off and weave in all ends.
