Chunky Sweater Free Knitting Pattern

Get ready for the simplest sweater free knitting pattern you have ever made! Knit a super chunky sweater with this free knitting pattern. Chunky Sweater Free Knitting Pattern

Free Knitting Pattern Materials

• 1440 meters (1600 yards) of a chunky weight yarn for the largest size.
• One pair of 4½ mm (US7) needles
• One pair of 6 mm (US10) or size need to obtain gauge.

Finished Bust/Chest Sizes
Small 42 inches, 107 cedi meters
Medium 45 inches, 114 cedi meters
Large 49 inches, 125 cedi meters
Extra Large 51 inches 130 cedi meters

Gauge 15 stitches = 4 inches (10cm) in stocking stitch on 6mm (US10) needles.
The instructions are written for the smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions are written ( ).

Chunky Sweater Free Knitting Pattern Back Instructions

**With 4½ millimeter needles cast on 80 (86-92-96) stitches. Work 6 rows in stocking stitch.

Change to 6 millimeters needles and continue in stocking stitch until work from beginning measures 16½ (16½-17-17) increase [42 (42-43~43) cm] ending with right side facing for next row.

Raglan shaping:

Cast off 2.(4-4-4) stitches at beginning of next 2 rows.
Next row: Knit2. slip next 2 stitches onto a cable needle and leave at back of work. (Knit together one stitch from needle and one Stitch from cable needle) twice.

Knit to last 6 stitches. slip next 2 stitches onto a cable needle and leave at front of work. (Knit together one Stitch from cable needle and one Stitch from needle) twice . Knit 2.
Next Row Purl.

Repeat last 2 rows 1 (0-0-2) times more. 68 (74-80-76) stitches on needle.

1st row: Knit.
2nd row: Purl.
3rd row: Knit 2. slip next 2 stitches onto a cable needle and leave at back of work. (Knit together one stitch from needle and one Stitch from cable needle) twice.. Knit to last 6 stitches. slip next 2 stitches onto a cable needle and leave at front of work. (Knit together one Stitch from cable needle and one Stitch from needle) twice.. Knit 2.
4th row: Purl.**

Repeat list 4 rows 10 (11-12-11) times more. Leave remain 24 (26-28-28) stitches on a stitch holder.

Chunky Sweater Free Knitting Pattern Front Instructions

Work from ** to ** as given for back.
Repeat last 4 rows 6 (7-8-7) times more, then 1st and 2nd rows once. 40 (42-44- 44) stitches on needle.

Left Neck Shaping:

Next row: (Right side). Knit 2. slip next 2 stitches onto a cable needle and leave at back of work. (Knit together one stitch from needle and one Stitch from cable needle) twice. K8. Knit 2 together (neck edge). Turn. Leave remain stitches on a spare needle.
1st row: Purl.
2nd row: Knit to last 2 stitches. Knit 2 together.
3rd row: Purl.
4th row: Knit 2. slip next 2 stitches onto a cable needle and leave at back of work. (Knit together one stitch from needle and one Stitch from cable needle) twice. Knit to last 2 stitches. Knit 2 together.
Repeat last 4 rows once more. 5 stitches on needle.
Next row: Purl.
Next row: Knit 3. Knit 2 together.
Next row: Purl.
Next row: slip next 2 stitches onto a cable needle and leave at back of work. (Knit together one stitch from needle and one Stitch from cable needle) twice. 2 stitches on needle.
Next row: Purl 2 together. Fasten off.

Right Neck Shaping:

With right side of work facing slip next 8 (10-12-12) stitches from spare needle onto a Stitch holder. Join yam to remain stitches.

1st row: slip next Stitch knitwise. psso. Knit to last 6 stitches; slip next 2 stitches onto a cable needle and leave at front of work. (Knit together one Stitch from cable needle and one Stitch from needle) twice. Knit 2.
2nd row: Purl.
3rd row: SL1K. Knit 1. psso. Knit to end of row.
4th row: Purl.
Repeat last 4 rows once more, then 1stitch row once. 5 stitches on needle.
Next row: Purl.
Next row: slip next Stitch knitwise. Knit 1. psso. Knit 3
Next row: Purl.
Next row: slip next 2 stitches onto a cable needle and leave at front of work. (Knit together one Stitch from cable needle and one Stitch from needle) twice. 2 stitches on needle.
Next row: Purl 2 together. Fasten off.

Chunky Sweater Free Knitting Pattern Sleeves Instructions

With 4½ millimeters needles cast on 40 (42-44- 44) stitches. Work 6 rows in stocking stitch.
Change to 6 millimeters needles and continue in stocking Stitch increase 1 stitch each end of needle on next and following 4th rows to 48 (60-58-54) stitches on needle, then on following 6th rows to 68 (74-76-76) stitches on needle.

Continue even until work from beginning measures 17½(18-18½-19) increase [44½ (46-47-48) cedimeters] ending with right side facing for next row.

Raglan shaping: Cast off 2 (4-4-4) stitches begin next 2 rows.
Next row: Knit 2. slip next 2 stitches onto a cable needle and leave at back of work. (Knit together one stitch from needle and one Stitch from cable needle) twice. Knit to last 6 stitches. slip next 2 stitches onto a cable needle and leave at front of work. (Knit together one Stitch from cable needle and one Stitch from needle) twice. Knit 2.
Next row: Purl.
Repeat last 2 rows 3(2-0-0) times more 48 (54-64-64) stitches on needle.
1st row: Knit.
2nd row: Purl.
3rd row: Knit2. slip next 2 stitches onto a cable needle and leave at back of work. (Knit together one stitch from needle and one Stitch from cable needle) twice. Knit to last 6 stitches. slip next 2 stitches onto a cable needle and leave at front of work. (Knit together one Stitch from cable needle and one Stitch from needle) twice. Knit 2.
4th row: Purl.

Repeat last 4 rows 9 (10-12-12) times more. Leave remain 8 (10-12-12) stitches on a stitch holder.

FINISHING
Sew raglan seams leaving left back raglan seam open.

Neck: With right side of work facing and 4½ millimeter needles, knit across 8 (10-12- 12) stitches from left sleeve stitch holder. Pick up and knit 10 stitches down left front neck edge. Knit across 8 (10-12-12) stitches from front Stitch holder.

Pick up and knit 10 stitches up right front neck edge. Knit across 8 (10-12-12) stitches from right sleeve Stitch holder. Knit across 24 (26-28-28) stitches from back stitch holder dec 3 stitches evenly. 65 (73-81-81) stitches on needle.

Next row: (Wrong side). Knit.
Proceed in stocking stitch (begin with a knit row) until collar measures 3 increase [8 cedimeters] ending with right side facing for next row. Cast off. Sew left back raglan and collar seam reversing seam for curl back edge.
Sew side and sleeve seams reversing seam for curl back edges. Do not press.
